What it is

More than surface oil removal

A floating skimmer draws the oil-rich surface layer through a bag filter and into a polypropylene coalescing pack. The media separates free and mechanically dispersed tramp oil before clarified coolant returns to the reservoir by gravity. Tank, media, skimmer, pump, and discharge are integrated on one skid.

Longer coolant service lifeContinuous separation removes free oils and solids that support bacteria and fungus, helping prevent odors and premature coolant failure.

How it works

Skim, filter, coalesce, return

The skimmer removes the oily surface layer, the bag filter captures solids, and the coalescing media separates tramp oil before clarified coolant returns by gravity.

Skim the surface

A floating skimmer rides the level and pulls the oily top layer off the surface.

Filter the solids

The supply pump sends it through a bag filter (100µ supplied, 1 to 200µ available) to drop suspended solids.

Coalesce the oil

Droplets attract to the polypropylene plates, combine, and rise into an oil layer that overflows to the trough and gravity-drains to your drum.

Return clarified coolant by gravity

An adjustable weir maintains the oil layer while clarified coolant returns to the reservoir by gravity. Separated oil drains independently without an oil pump.

Compatibility requirement: chemically emulsified oil cannot be removed through coalescing, and emulsifying cleaners should not be used with the unit. When separation behavior is unclear, run the 30 to 60 minute bottle test or request a fluid-compatibility review.

Tramp-oil control for one or multiple reservoirs

Use a standard T.O.S.S. model for dedicated treatment at one sump, reservoir, pit, or parts washer. Use the portable T1 when multiple independent reservoirs can share one separator on a planned schedule. Continuous oil loading, reservoir volume, fluid chemistry, and required treatment rate determine the configuration.

For shallow, tight sumps

Vertical floating skimmer

A stationary float that clamps to the side of the reservoir, skims the surface, and rides the level up and down. Built for shallow, hard-to-reach sumps; the reservoir must not drop below the float's lowest point.

Holding tramp oil below half of one percent helps extend coolant service life. Recovered oil with 1% to 2% water content may be suitable for reclamation or reuse, subject to composition, waste classification, and recipient requirements.

    How does T.O.S.S. differ from surface skimming or top-suction filtration?

    Top suction describes where fluid is collected, not how the oil is separated. Equipment that only collects or filters the oil-rich surface layer may leave mechanically dispersed droplets in the fluid. T.O.S.S. draws from the surface, filters suspended solids, and passes the fluid through coalescing media that separates free and mechanically dispersed tramp oil before clarified fluid returns to the reservoir. The media separates 99% of 20-micron oil droplets on the first pass.

    Will it work with our fluid?

    T.O.S.S. is compatible with water-based coolants, synthetics, and alkaline wash water carrying free, dispersed, or loosely emulsified oil. Chemically emulsified oil cannot be removed through coalescing. When separation behavior is unclear, request a fluid-compatibility review.

    What routine maintenance is required?

    T.O.S.S. operates autonomously without interrupting the machine. Routine ownership care is limited to condition-based bag-filter service and planned cleaning of accessible separator components. EdjeTech supplies replacement media, parts, and technical support by model.

    Can we feed it with a pump we already own?

    Only a progressive-cavity or air-diaphragm pump. Never a centrifugal pump: a centrifugal impeller shears tramp oil into fine droplets and disperses it back through the coolant, undoing the separation.
