Application selection method

Select cleaning chemistry using T.A.C.T.

Cleaning performance depends on four operating variables: time, agitation, concentration, and temperature. The chemistry must be compatible with the washer and its operating range.

    TimeDwell across the cycle
    How long the parts are exposed to the cleaner across pre-wash, each wash and rinse stage, and drying. Cleaner selection must account for the available dwell time in each stage.

    AgitationHow the fluid moves
    The washer may use spray nozzles, ultrasonic energy, or basket immersion. Chemistry must match the agitation method. Spray washers require low-foam or non-foaming cleaners to prevent foam-over.

    ConcentrationDetergent to water ratio
    Concentration below or above the required range can cause rust, foaming, residue, or poor cleaning. Maintaining the specified concentration also controls concentrate use.

    TemperatureWash-water heat
    Some cleaners operate at ambient temperature. Higher temperature can accelerate cleaning and drying, while excessive heat can affect workpiece stability or cooling time.
Oil-handling chemistry

Oil separation, dispersion, and emulsification

Oil-handling chemistry affects bath life, oil removal, rinsing, and maintenance requirements. Each product below uses one of three approaches.

Oil-rejecting

Separates oil at the bath surface

Lifted oil separates to the surface, where it can be skimmed off. Surface separation supports longer bath life and rust protection in applicable single-stage spray washers.

Oil-dispersing

Disperses oil and soil into fine particles

Oil and soil are dispersed into fine particles, suspended, and flushed from the surface with the rinse instead of collecting at the top of the bath.

Emulsifying

Suspends loosened dirt

Breaks up and holds loosened dirt in suspension so it does not redeposit on the cleaned part. Suited to soak tanks carrying heavy free oils. Emulsifying cleaners must remain isolated from coolant sent to a C.R.O.S.S. system.
